  • Mill Springs, January 17, 1862: The Ninth’s signature achievement, turning the tide of battle with a bayonet charge, and setting the confederates to rout - https://www.nps.gov/misp/index.htm 

  • Chickamauga & Chattanooga, September 18-20 & November 25, 1863: The Niners’ most costly battles, where they would lose over 50% of their number in back-to-back engagements - https://www.nps.gov/chch/index.htm 

  • Resaca, May 13-15, 1864: Site of the Ninth Ohio’s last battle, where they were escorted off the line by Gen. George Thomas and sent home at the expiration of their term of service  - http://www.gordoncountyparks.org/ 

  • Rowlett’s Station, December 17, 1861: A site closely related to the Ninth - it was here that August Willich’s 32nd Indiana defeated cavalry from Terry’s Texas Rangers.  At least 10 percent of the regiment were Cincinnati Germans - http://www.battleforthebridge.org/

  • Over-the-Rhine Museum: Located in the former home of Carl L. Fettweis, sculptor of several local monuments, and the Ninth Ohio Monument at Chickamauga.  Focuses on the history of the OTR neighborhood, providing tours, etc. - http://www.otrmuseum.org/ 

  • Camp Dennison: A site dating back to the American Revolution (The Christian Waldschmidt Homestead) and run by the DAR, Camp Dennison was the Ninth Ohio’s mustering camp prior to leaving for West Virginia in spring of 1861 - https://www.ohiodar.org/waldindex.html 

  • Brewing Heritage Trail: An organization dedicated to preserving Cincinnati’s brewing history, which was heavily influenced by German immigrants.  Host of the annual Bockfest - https://brewingheritagetrail.org/
